Rafael Nadal secured a win over Novak Djokovic last night to claim the US Open title. The win meant Nadal is only the seventh man in history to complete a set of Grand Slam titles winning Wimbledon, French, Australian and US Opens. Djokovic record over Nadal on hard court is seven matches to three but Nadal’s ability to step up his game in major finals meant that the match would always be an uphill battle for Djokovic. Nadal won the match by three sets to one following a two hour rain break in the second set which enabled Djokovic to level the match at one set all.

Wales boss John Toshack is expected to hand his resignation into the Welsh FA on Thursday following Wales’s 1-0 defeat to Montenegro on Friday. There have been problems in the welsh camp for quite some time and this undoubtedly affected the teams performance throughout world cup qualifying and the problems don’t seem to have dissolved. Reports have suggested that Ryan Giggs could replace John Toshack on a part time basis but realistically Giggs will continue to focus on his playing career at Manchester United. John Hartson is another contender as is Chris Coleman, Welsh under 21 coach Brian Flynn, and possibly Ian Rush.
